cdmaOne Subscriber Growth Increases 171% 9/8/99 The CDMA Development Group (Costa Mesa, CA) recently reported that cdmaOne subscriber growth has increased 171% from June 1998 to 1999. By achieving this feat, the cdmaOne industry has now signed on nearly 35 million subscribers worldwide.
“cdmaOne experienced significant worldwide growth during the first six months of 1999, giving cdmaOne presence on virtually every continent,” says Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. “For the rest of this year, cdmaOne development and growth will continue not only in Asia and North America, but in emerging markets such as India, Latin America, and the Middle East.”
Overall, Asia and North America continued to pace subscriber growth in the cdmaOne market. According to the CDG's statistics, the number of subscribers more than doubled in these regions.
The Middle East, Europe, and Latin America also paced cdmaOne growth. According to the new report, more than two million subscribers signed up in these regions.
After achieving strong growth in the beginning of 1999, the cdmaOne industry expects see dramatic subscriber growth in the latter half of 1999 and first half of 2000. In fact, LaForge says the cdmaOne market expects to reach its goal of 50 million subscribers by year-end.
