cdmaOne Subscriber Growth Increases 171%
9/8/99 The CDMA Development Group (Costa Mesa, CA) recently reported that
cdmaOne subscriber growth has increased 171% from June 1998 to 1999. By
achieving this feat, the cdmaOne industry has now signed on nearly 35 million
subscribers worldwide.

“cdmaOne experienced significant worldwide growth during the first six months of
1999, giving cdmaOne presence on virtually every continent,” says Perry
LaForge, executive director of the CDG. “For the rest of this year, cdmaOne
development and growth will continue not only in Asia and North America, but in
emerging markets such as India, Latin America, and the Middle East.”

Overall, Asia and North America continued to pace subscriber growth in the
cdmaOne market. According to the CDG's statistics, the number of subscribers
more than doubled in these regions.

The Middle East, Europe, and Latin America also paced cdmaOne growth.
According to the new report, more than two million subscribers signed up in
these regions.

After achieving strong growth in the beginning of 1999, the cdmaOne industry
expects see dramatic subscriber growth in the latter half of 1999 and first half of
2000. In fact, LaForge says the cdmaOne market expects to reach its goal of 50
million subscribers by year-end.
