Jeez, Ish- that's awful.
But the consequence you learned had nothing to do with your own behavior! You just learned that your parents were irrational and violent and to keep clear of them.
Most kids do things assuming they're not going to get caught and then they don't even think about the "but I MIGHT" and "what if"..and they're really bad at delayed gratification, too. No tomorrow.

You just described an abusive relationship and it makes me ill to think about how many children live in homes where the parents lack any control over their own behavior and take their frustrations and anger out on a small child.
