"High Noon: the Inside Story of Scott McNealy and the Rise of Sun Microsystems" by Karen Southwick

Brief comments: This is a must. I read it in two nights.

"High Noon" is a great book for investors and students of the computer and technology industries. I judge it as fair, honest and accurate. Point of view is of a news journalist. It is not slanted towards or against Sun, although, that is harder to tell in early sections, which are more historically oriented, than latter portions, which get more and more analytical and even judgmental.

Minor criticisms are that the book seems to have been written in haste, so it has some irregularities and inconsistencies and the style could be smoother. To offset that, it covers right up to the late winter and early spring of 1999, a great writing and publishing effort for a book released last week.

I learned some computer industry and Sun history I was not aware of, while my understandings of many things were both amplified and clarified. Some misconceptions were corrected.

My investment opinion of Sun is not changed in any way. But I do feel more informed.

I was also reintroduced to two former Sun executives who I previously recruited for at DEC in the early 1980s. I had no idea they ever worked at Sun. One was President of Sun for a couple of years, and one was a Vice President and General Manager. Amazing.
