Yes, Vendit, I am quite aware of the tenents of Socialism/Communism. In fact, I believe that it is a great formula for a Utopia, but so horribly impractical that its use requires a police state. The tenents of Communism do not require a totalitarian government, but not Communistic system can be enforced without one. I, in light of that fact, wonder how you can call the Democratic party Socialist. I have yet to hear a polititian even loudly think about the nationalization of economy and income. Furthermore, in many areas, the Republican party seems to me to be more restictive on personal freedoms than the Democrats. For instance, Democrats usually support abortion (a freedom, wheather it should be allowed or not), the National Endowment for the Arts (it does support freedom of speech- even repugnant speech), and other such issues. On the other hand Republicans oppose flag burning and other freedoms of "repugnant" speech. With these considerations in mind, I do not see how either party could be said to be Communist. Please note, I do not affiliate myself with either group nor do I wish to debate abortion which I may or may not support. I was simply using that sensitive subject as an example of a personal freedom, which it undoubtably would be were it allowed.
Throwing such names as Socialist around only serve to cloud issues, especially if they are inaccurately used. I'll promise not to call you an anarchist if you promise not to call me a Commie.
