The Japanese are getting pretty close with their stuff, and once they ship, it's game over for these startups. ULBI should survive because they sell other stuff. VLNC has been promising to ship for so many years that I don't even care anymore if they succeed or fail. LITH says right in their latest 10Q that they may not survive past this October.

For wacky ideas with high potential return, polymer batteries have missed their window. Even if the little companies ship successfully now, it is not clear they will have any opportunity to profit with the withering competition they will face.

I am following BLDP, MHTX and some of the other fuel cell companies now. For betting small money on a big return 5 years out, it looks like a much better play than batteries.
