Yo_Joel...........Thank you for your question to me regarding RAMBUS. I normally spend most of my time on SI in "lurk Mode" because I am not a fast Typist, so please bear with me while I try to give you some of MY THOUGHTS about RAMBUS.
The place to start is the RAMBUS SI thread: Subject 14988
You can get a lot of good info from this thread, but I suggest you go back and start early this year in order that you will be able to separate the truth from the lies and FUD. Almost every thing you read will be about P.C.MEMORY as in: sales; cost of RAMBUS compared to other P.C. memory; speed as compared to other P.C. memories; P.C.Memory this and P.C.memory that.....Well, you can blow off all of the P.C.Memory hype, because P.C.Memory will be less than 50%of REVS. going forward. To find the real future for RAMBUS I will suggest a couple of things you can do to help you understand RAMBUS' future:
1) Find the RAMBUS PATENTS (over 47 so far) and read them. As you read them think of COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS - World Wide Systems and even systems not Earth bound (Satellite, wireless, etc.).
2) Think of the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT [Both military and non- military] as a MAJOR user of RAMBUS TECHNOLOGY. The Government could (and probably will) issue a single purchase order that would (will) cause the value of RAMBUS to go OUT-OF-SIGHT.
3) Think of Auto, aircraft, boat and medical equipment manufacturers using RAMBUS TECHNOLOGY in their industries.
4) RAMBUS will be so pervasive in our lives with-in the very near future that it will be a common, non thought producing "THING", sort of like turning on a light switch. You don't think of huge power plants with giant generators producing massive amounts of electricity going through thousands of miles of wires and multiple transformers to your light bulb, that you just turned on,do you? That is the way it will be with RAMBUS' TECHNOLOGY.
Well, enough of my ramblings, I wish I could be more SPECIFIC in what I am try to tell you, but I can't, so you will just have to read between the lines, and of coarse do your own research. Hope this gets you started on the right track!!
Salude and good researching to you, Joel! - Norman
