John, this article correctly points out many of the delays, risks and problems along the way. It was clearly written before Intel's live demonstration last week of a real Merced workstation running real applications. This demonstration we a real boost for Intel and HP. It shows that Merced is real and gives credence to the promises of a mid 2000 delivery. It was a MAJOR accomplishment for Intel to demonstrate a real system before a live audience only 2-3 weeks after first silicon. The difficulty of pulling this off can not be over stated. It was perhaps unprecedented and shows that Merced is well along in the debug phase. EP
