Basically, the article is a HATCHET job - and completely out of date. MERCED WORKS - PERIOD. It was late - so what - all of Merced's competitors ARE or WERE late. And MERCED's competitors - Alpha is a comercial FAILURE and UltraSParc III - due in mid 1998 - won't even ship until LATE THIS YEAR - over 1 1/2 years LATE !. HP is touting their upcoming NEW PA-RISC chips - now all they have to do is DESIGN THEM ! That puts Merced in excellent shape. My guess is that Merced will be a runaway hit - technically and financially, although Merced's successors will probably produce the bulk of the financial success. Paul
