American strategic interest IMO includes supporting peoples fighting to be free everywhere -- if we can. This is an opportunity to support people who are acting legally in defense of their legitimate national aspirarations. We should take the money we've been wasting on Russia and Egypt (I'm willing to talk about the Israel money) and support the East Timorese. I don't mind at all that most of them are Christians who are trying to resist Islamic imperialism.
