It may be worth recalling that the armed mob with army support has become a traditional Indonesian method of suppressing domestic dissent. In the past we have not disapproved, because the people being suppressed were communists, or sort of maybe communists, or something like that. As long as the cold war was on we were perfectly happy to see East Timor part of Indonesia; no telling what affiliations those Falintil boys might have.

Now everything has changed. Except for the Indonesians.
