The servers have much better resources. They can respond to a lot more individual commands from the "dumb terminal." [ put differently, the "dumb terminals" have a bigger vocabulary. ] The networks are a lot more sophisticated. Bandwidth is the latest buzzword. What was the bandwidth when the 3270 was in use (and I got some good results from them).

Sort of like the pendulum theory of management (my own invention). First they centralize, then they decentralize, then they centralize, ad nauseum. [ please don't kill me for this one - an "analogy" only - but if you happen to be a manager, live with it. ]

Similar with software deployment. At first ( pre 198? ), it was centralized. Then came the PC and it was decentralized. Now we appear to be moving back toward centralized.

Whatever it is, I don't care. I just see Citrix in the middle of leading the development. That's a good thing.
