Interactive tv relies upon a separate back channel right now, unless you have a cable modem...which is in the early stages of roll out..the pace should accelerate this coming year. That would allow all of the activities you mentioned, as well as hooking up a camera so that grandma can see the grand kids. Home shopping will probably be the fastest implementation. I tend to think of the tv and monitor as one and the same...one day they will be. There are quite a few streaming video/audio conference call or recorded implementations about stock and news now..more will come. Businesses can use the video conference for intranet use, some do now. It saves a lot of flying around. The combo PDA, cell phone, video cam, radio is starting to merge also. Lots of usages there.
