ADSL does appear promising.

Although I have purchased AMTX and PAIR purely on technical reasons
there are some fundamental questions we should all try to answer.

Is AMTX generating any sales. Their PE is based on earnings from ICOT
is AMTX's ADSL modem being sold, and if so to whom? The PE of about 35
would be relatively cheap, compared to ASND, etc, if they are but is
rich if they are not. I believe ICOT 3rd Q eps grew at only 10%.

We know ISDN is available now, at least in most major cities, and we
see them advertised and can call the RBOCs and find out costs but can
anybody do this with ADSL? I called Pac Bell's ISDN number hoping they
could provide answers but the person had no idea what it was and left
me on hold for twenty minutes while she tried to find out. I thought
Pacific Bell was one of the more aggressive RBOCs, am I wrong? If the
RBOCs don't give consumers the answers they will choose ISDN. If they
choose ISDN when upgrading from 28.8 it may be a while before they
commit to paying another $300 for another modem. I don't know if this
is what an ADSL modem costs, I think about $600 now, but is the average
cost for ISDN modems from MOT, IBM, ASND, and GANDF. Does anybody know
the cost?

Does anybody know of RBOCs testing these technology? I know Bell Atlantic
is testing it in VA and DC but that is just for movies on demand. I will
try to get information on this later tonight.

In response to Matt Jaffe, I thought ADSL was not limited to a 1 mile but
performance decreased outside of that first mile. Perhaps I am wrong.

Has anybody hear of the Israeli company Orckit Communications? It
is on the leading edge also. It produces a B-ADSL that can carry 52 MB
downstream and 6 MB upstream. I believe it is private but will call to
verify.

In talking with AT&T Paradyne Dawn mentioned SDSL (Symetric DSL)which carries
data at 6 MB both upstream and downstream. Anybody know about this?

Finally, what are the differences and which is better among ADSL, SDSL, HDSL,
and VDSL. Who does which and which will hit the market at the best price and
reliablitiy.

I know I have listed a lot of questions but I think if we can all answer them
we may be on something big. We all know how ASND has performed over the last
two years in anticipation of ISDN modems. The same could be in store for these
companies which very few people have ever heard of.

Eric Baird
