you didn't talk about what of a material nature is at stake, and what of a material nature the Indonesian military hope to gain.

Absolutely nothing. It costs Indonesia far more to occupy Timor than anybody is making from Timor, or is likely to make for a long, long, time.

Weird that people would fight over it. But they do. Not unique, look at the Falklands...
