Mr. Nigel Stokes reports
DataMirror Corporation is introducing its Transformation Server for Flat Files. This new product release is a key addition to DataMirror's award-winning Transformation Server product line and significantly expands DataMirror's market opportunity by giving customers access to non-relational data.
According to Meta Group, many companies are finding it more strategic than ever to maintain legacy systems where 70 per cent of the world's data still resides. Structured files (flat files) are one of the key vehicles for exporting data locked in proprietary or custom developed applications residing on legacy systems.
"This is a significant addition to our Business Intelligence and Infrastructure for dot-com offerings. Our customers have been looking for a simple and direct method of moving and sharing data stored in multiple formats located in heterogeneous systems across the enterprise," said Nigel Stokes, chairman, president and chief executive officer of DataMirror. "Previously, IT professionals faced significant programming challenges in importing flat files from legacy systems into relational database tables where it can be accessed by e-commerce and other business applications. By introducing file support into the Transformation Server product line, including the Enterprise Administrator, customers will find this one of the easiest and most direct tools on the market."
Transformation Server for Flat Files can reside in any UNIX or Windows NT environment and allows users to move data directly into a target relational database without requiring staging. For dot-com companies wishing to leverage legacy systems for data rich e-commerce applications, this is a major advantage. Transformation Server for Flat Files also has built in masking capability to aid in the description and replication of more complicated formats such as dates and currencies.
Transformation Server for Flat Files also represents the first use of XML (Extensible Markup Language) as a core technology in Transformation Server. The incorporation of XML technology into Transformation Server is in keeping with DataMirror's Internet and e-commerce strategy, as well as the company's overall plan for enabling enterprise data integration from one end of the organization to the other and across the Internet.
General availability
Transformation Server for Flat Files will be generally available on Sept. 15, 1999. Pricing is custom quoted based on computing environment.
Available via the Internet
DataMirror continues to lead the way in business-to-business e-commerce for enterprise data integration. Fully functional trial versions of Transformation Server for Flat Files will be available for download via the Internet by visiting www.datamirror.com
