My thoughts are similar to yours. I find it hard to imagine any significant involvement by anybody in this quagmire. That's why I think it will resolve itself in a militaristic state. "Power to the powerful," if you will.

And, in response to other comments, if there is outside involvement, I would be less concerned with an 'exit strategy' than with a clear statement of purpose, so that we'll know when the job has been completed.

In any event, the sabers are rattling.
