I do not want to really get involved in the discussion but will attempt to add some clarification. The 802.11 is a standard for devices that operate either in the 900MHz or the 2.4GHz bands. The 802.11a is intended for devices in the 5.xGHz bands. Compatibility is a non issue since they will not operate in the same band. Some companies are likely to introduce products that are based on 802.11a but operate in the 2.4GHz. However, at this stage, these will not be standard products. Hatim
