Mark, on PhD title I never wear mine on my sleeve.. at work they call me DoctorJ just to amuse me.. laughter follows me wherever I go.. we have fun even under pressure.. but I was forced to put that title on my business card when my manager insisted.. for the sake of our group's reputation and credentials.. it is not on my office door.. my diploma does not appear on a wall in my office or my home, but rather in a drawer.. I am proud of what I did to earn it.. but I do not wear it openly.. unlike lawyers who put it on walls as a tribute to themselves and claimed to calm clients
when at dentists, doctors, or optometrists, I insist on being called Dr O'Shaughnessy, JUST TO JAG THE ARROGANT SONOFABITCHES.. I find their insistence on title to be demeaning, arrogant, supercilious, and unAmerican.. when I am with a real jerk doctor, the exchange initiated by me is often something like: hi Doctor Davey, this is Dr O'S how are you today, Dr Davey?.. Dr O'S is fine too Doctor <head nod>, Doctor <grunt> and I sit down they just laugh, sometimes unaware they were insulted
I baited GC since his educational level belies the lack of intelligence displayed on the thread.. so yes, Rosey, I fall into his silly games trap.. I will wrestle with the moron for a few rounds, then leave him alone.. he does extreme discredit to the scientific experimental method from which he originated.. I ask for details, evidence, substantiation, flow of argument, anything.. but then again, I knew a few morons in my doctoral class.. one shot himself dead in the temple of his head after a disappointment
and of course, a couple of my screws could use tightening / Jim Willie |
