World Heart to demonstrate Biotelemetry for patient monitoring World Heart Corp WHT Shares issued 14,078,743 Sep 9 close $17.95 Fri 10 Sept 99 News Release Dr. Tofy Mussivand reports World Heart will demonstrate its Biotelemetry System between Osaka, Tokyo and Ottawa, as part of the Team Canada Trade Mission visiting Japan next week. The system can transfer data from one or more sensors inside the human body to a remote computer monitor, and also receive data inside the body originating from the remote computer. To demonstrate this breakthrough technology, Dr. Tofy Mussivand, president of World Heart, will exchange data from a simulated patient with Dr. Wilbert Keon, director general of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. The Biotelemetry System will capture and send data from HEARTSAVERvad, operating in Ottawa at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, to be received by the system monitor in Osaka on Sept. 13, 1999, and Tokyo on Sept. 17, 1999. Dr. Mussivand will input instructions into the system in Osaka and Tokyo and will control the operation of the HEARTSAVERvad in Ottawa. ?The ability for two way remote transfer of data into and out of the human body has enormous potential application. This has never before been done, and we believe will be a breakthrough for both the quality of life of many patients and the quality and cost of care,? Dr. Mussivand said. ?The initial use will be as part of the HEARTSAVERvad system, to provide patient freedom, and minimize costs. We expect that the system will in the future be used in a wide range of other diagnostic monitoring and treatment applications,? he said.
