I wish you were right. But I'm predicting the worst:
Hillary will garner 63% of the women's vote and almost half the men's vote. Her strategy will be a "get-out-and-vote" push to get the most ignorant of citizens to the polls. (Dems know that they are the party of the ignorant.)
She will manipulate the media to do stories on get-out-and-vote topics. She will show Rudy as a meanie, to ice her women's vote. And by next year, she'll have spent enough time in NY that people won't be calling her a carpetbagger anymore. Hollywood will draw the crowds. And she'll come off as the composed dignified first lady against vicious Rudy in the debates. The media will help her shape this message and the spin after the debates can be written now.
By the time voters watch the debates, Hillary will be viewed as scandal free, except for some "petty" sniping by Rudy (which will backfire on him).
Hillary will have the Times and the 3 networks which are headquartered in NYC. She'll have Hollywood, the black vote, Wall Street, the Puerto Ricans, Moynihan, Schummer, Koch, Geraldo, Rosie, Opra, the unions, the teachers, the welfare kings, the immigrants and NOW. She'll have twice as much money as Rudy and twice as many celebrities stumping for her.
And she'll have the voters psychological edge. That is, when people vote republican for president they like to vote dem for congress. GWB will get more than a republican's traditional share of votes in NY, thus awarding Hillary votes of her own.
Thank goodness I don't live in NY.
