the very first thing that one needs in order to participate in these white angels, venture capital, and/or private equities deal is to be an accredited investors (min 250k liquid asset). Just want to drop that in there for those that is curious about getting involve in them. There are mutual funds that are fund of funds of these products in which you can participate indirectly at a much lower minimum.

I am in the business so I kind of know how things are done. Most often, it is well known around town that you have money, and companies will knock on your door for initial investments. Invesment bankers rarely have to find deals, they spend most of their times weeding through 40 ideas that is presented to them to find the 2 or three with the best chance. In recent time, they are doing a lot less due diligence with anything with a .com behind the idea.

Investment banking firm usually will ask for a minimum of 100k(most want 250k at least) as a starter...too steep for most of us...the old saying "the rich gets richer" is true in this area. The risk is high but the return over the last 10 years have been astounding for most of these firms.
