I don't know about the llamas. I haven't been there since the mid-80's. But I lived at the foot of Hwy 2 in high school and a friend's father worked at the observatory. I spent a few weekends up there on site. It was great. And for the crew there was a rec-room with pool table. We played "Funeral for a Friend" and shot pool. And sat on the mountain's edge when the cloud cover was between you and the city. It was mighty tempting to step out onto it.
