Argentina's Telecom to spend $450 mln on PCS

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Argentina's Telecom Personal SA, the mobile phone unit of
Telecom Argentina <TEC2.BA><TEO.N>, said Friday it will spend $450 million over the next two years
on its new PCS wireless phone operations.

The company was awarded three Personal Communications System wireless telephone licenses this June for
the southern region of Argentina and the Buenos Aires area, where it lacks independent operations.

It has a soon-to-be split joint venture with Telefonica de Argentina <TEA2.BA><TAR.N> in Buenos Aires
called Miniphone.

Telecom paid a total of $245 million for the three licenses. The remaining $205 million will be used to build a
new network and expand its current operations, a Telecom Personal spokesman said.

The company said in a statement that its client base had reached 700,000 in the northern area of Argentina,
where it shares a monopoly with GTE Corp. <GTE.N>-backed CTI Movil. Telecom Personal said that
represents 65 percent of the market.

Telecom is owned 50-50 by France Telecom <FTE.PA> and Telecom Italia <TIT.MI>.
