OK... well I posted that because I suspect those dept of ed officials that live in Texas actually do send their kids to public schools.

On this funding issue I am outnumbered. However I only know this. If I were living in Texas, as a teacher, I could live well.. have a house and a decent quality of life. The schools I saw (Austin which might be an anomaly) are all brand new. In California being a teacher means practically poverty, and the school buildings are all 50 years old with no heat. So assuming Ca pays 10x what texas pays in school expenditures, it is not enough. After all houses are about 30x more expensive in Ca vs. Texas... maybe that is the barometer.
