You are confusing network bandwidth with memory bandwidth. Even old FPM DRAM had bandwidth that was orders of magnitude greater than anything that is going to be coming across the the net to desktops for many years. If, IF!, there is any need for rambus's bandwidth it is in local data transfers such a between video chip and video RAM, or CPU and video RAM.

PC100 has a burst rate of 6.4GHZ (64 x 100MHZ) - its sustained rate is more like a third of that, but it doesn't have the overhead of ATM packets, so it's pretty close to an OC-48 line, and a few dozen of those are the backbone of the entire world wide internet.

Unless you expect 1 or 2 percent of the planet earth's internet traffic being directed at you (as important as we all know you are) hooking up to the internet isn't going to require rambus.
