Bill,

AMAT is a great company but it is very richly valued at $80

AMAT is trading at about 27X FY00 eps(their FY00 starts 2 months earlier BTW) so it is really trading where the broad S&P average is, and is expected to grow 22-25% for the next few years. How many top-tier S&Pers can say that?

other semi equipment stocks that are much better values.

Perhaps. But look at SFAM as case in point. Only 2 years ago this was the pure play on CMP b/c they had a large portion of the market. Now AMAT is near the top in the field and SFAM is struggling to survive! If SFAM were the exception to the rule, I might agree with your assessment, however it is not. We see time and again AMAT gain share where industry experts say they don't have a chance. Same goes for INTC, CSCO, MSFT.......
