Globalstar held an upbeat investor meeting in San Jose to demonstrate the satellite phones and discuss the status of its operations. The Fall 1999 commercial service launch appears to be on track. Overall, the company appears very optimistic about all elements of its business. Globalstar now believes its satellites' lives will be closer to 10 years versus 7.5. Service providers have requested 300,000 phones; we had the opportunity to place satellite calls from the Globalstar handset, and the performance was excellent-indistinguishable from terrestrial digital cellular/PCS. We believe Globalstar is poised for a successful launch and investors should not be concerned about recent bankruptcies of players. We believe competitors' bankruptcies represent an opportunity for Globalstar and we reiterate our Buy and $33 target price.
