Michael, you seem to have missed the thrust of my post completely! And I only had one glass of wine last night!
I mean no disrespect but must ask if you are a CA teacher or teacher's union official. I'll be glad to consider any facts you present but please be able to verify them.
Rofl! No, I used to work in software, I was a director in R&D. I started in N. Ca in Silicon Valley and last year was working on the supply chain at Dell in Austin. So, my observations are merely California vs. Austin, not a representative set.
I consider schools in California (and I'm referring to N.California here) to be a travesty... an embarrassment... you would never want to send you kids to the same public schools that 20 years ago produced Jobs & Wozniak. In 20 years Ca has gone from first to worst, while the demographics of the area have changed to include the smartest people in country! The buildings and facilities are the same as they were then, I don't see any improvements, class sizes are huge and teachers must pay for supplies from their own salaries these days.
Am I to believe the average teacher in TX lives in a $100,000 home and the average teacher in CA must pony up $3,000,000 for similar digs. I know better. Personally.
How much do you think a house like this would cost in Austin? cbnorcal.com Offered at $1,349,000 (Sale Pending)

I was thinking of a 50K house in Austin equating to a million $$ house here. Your average house in silicon valley is one million. In the exclusive areas like Palo Alto its more (mostly because PA has one of the ONLY decent school systems in town)
don't know where you're coming from but must dare to say CA doesn't pay 10X what TX does on schools.
I don't know if they do or not, it was just speculation. Whatever it is I don't think its enough. |
