That's a good point, but all of the operating system calls will probably be located in another bank, iterative calls to different modules of the program in other banks, etc.

And it's important to note that NAP is a temporary state - which must continually alternate with either STBY or ATTN. Rambus can't be left in NAP even when not being accessed.

But you may have presented us with the explanation for the Dell benchmarks. If rambus must be left in NAP or STBY to avoid overheating, then it could be that it will always be forced to suffer substantially higher latencies than PC100 - which was the major argument against its use in the first place.

I guess we may need to wait for actual systems to see how it works with real applications.
