Hitler, Stalin, and many before them were in error and doomed to fail, but they made horrendous messes in the process. The religious right is probably the largest, most organized, and most influential extremist group in the US today, and as such deserves out attention. The bible has only the mystical significance which you choose to give it. For the rest of us it is only a long and turgid collection of words, and we do ignore it to the best of our ability (hard to entirely ignore something when people keep throwing it at you). Since the mystical significance is provided by you, nobody can take it away from you. Don't worry about the seminar, they are just trying to figure out what they think. Why am I not surprised that after so many years they still haven't succeeded?
