Yep ... this is a demonstration of one of the stupid "features" of Netscape web servers. I've seen this numerous times ...

Netscape, in their infinite wisdom, decided that if a file type was unknown by the web server, then it should send it and tell your browser that it's an ASCII (text) file. And so their browser tries to do what the web server said and display the "text" ... the only problem is that it's a binary file.

Microsoft ... with their better UI people ... decided that if the file type is known by Windows, then ignore what the stupid web server says and treat it as the known type ... ;-)

Just another example of why Microsoft is ... and Netscape is not. ;-)
