Why are you disappointed? If for no other reason, I view episodes such as this one as a necessary evil. I think that every now and then we need to show by force of logic that a majority (although not all) of the "failings" of JD's advice aren't worth the time it takes to read them. These include the current one (JD is out of touch), or JD never sells stocks, or I could do better than JD in an index fund, or JD's stocks are mostly dead money, etc... In almost every case, the kneejerk reaction might be to agree, but given a bit of thought they usually get disproved. As an example of a JD mistake, I still think he sold SHBZ(CEC) for no apparent reason, and made a big mistake missing a large run in the price of the stock, but, hey, we all make mistakes... (I'm just glad I didn't sell my SHBZ(CEC) until the mid/upper 40's...) CPPKY could be viewed as another error (that one's for you Diogeron...), but if you're not making mistakes in the market from time to time, you're probably not taking on enough risk to make spectacular gains in the market ;-)

It also is good every now and then for someone like Ralph, or Ron to come along and make you reexamine your thinking, since we all can become lackadaisical in reviewing information for it's validity. I frequently don't realize I'm critically reviewing information, because it's second nature to me (I'm probably one of the most skeptical people in the world). I take very little on face value, and usually need to think things through to become comfortable with them. I've mentioned this from time to time in the past as my reasoning for staying away from CPPKY and some of the other European recommendations... because I couldn't adequately verify the company's strengths and weaknesses myself. It's also the reason I stayed invested in Ericsson for 2+ years while learning the QCOM story (kind of by accident and association). I finally decided for myself that QCOM was the company of the future, and switched back in December/January, and I'm sure glad I did.

In any regard, the thread had died down a bit, and this gave me a chance to post a couple of new messages and think through a few things.
