I don't buy this TDMA in China idea. What exactly is the point of introducing a second digital standard? The most succesful mobile markets are the ones that adopted a single standard and stuck to it; whether it's Korea and CDMA or Italy and GSM. The coolest new developments in mobile data take place in these markets for a reason. You need big chunk of the population covered by one standard before mobile data takes off in the mainstream. You don't reach that critical mass if you splinter the market.

In Finland, major insurance companies, the police, leading banks, etc. are committing to new WAP services, because they know they can reach 70% of the population using one platform and one standard. Why should China splinter their mobile market after they have seen what a mess resulted from several digital standards in Russia and USA? You would expect them to emulate the policies of those markets that have actually made digital mobile telephony succeed.
