Stan, thanks for those words. In the space that I (dare I say, we?) occupy, it used to be that visions took decades for validating and/or debunking. Now it only takes a year or two, sometimes less, for visions to stand in the box and be handed down a verdict. I remind you that I'm referring to my space, not theoretical physics, although the former almost always depends on the latter.
With a good vision aid, a concept that would have been considered a "vision" a decade ago could now be relegated to only a fleeting notion, or a passing idea. More frequently, however, these ideas are very often merely natural outgrowths of current trends which occur to many practitioners near-simultaneously (recall the simultaneous claims to the invention of the telephone, for example), due to their obvious crying out to be launched into society. It has all to do with the acceleration of half-life decay, I believe. smile.
I look forward to reading the piece by Vinod and returning with comments.
