yes, kholt: others, LIKE ME AND MINE, see this "decreasingly concerned populace" poll-reporting trend is utterly alarming,

how in the name of all that is sacred, can YOU, kholt, espouse "y2k ignorance is bliss" as the preferred method of crowd control????????????????????????????????????????????????
(your exact words were: I am of the view that the single greatest risk we face is overreaction/panic,)
when there were ALL ALONG!!!!- LIFE SAVING choices available to the uninformed/unprepared, from those self-sam, sanctimonious harlots and johns who willfully kept others ignorant by their lack of personal or community sense of leadership. we expect government to 'not care' since we are only a number/statistic to them.

information is power--life GIVING power. lack of information is not only disenfranchising, it has bloody, deathly consequences in just a short timeframe.

did you weep over the charred to embers innocents who perished with David Koresh? do you truly expect us to believe you will do less weeping over your own father's woefully flip response to your wimpish query? will you weep over those you've played a hand in keeping ignorant/innocent stemming from your fervent wish that as long as we NO ONE panics, we'll all muddle through--somehow. You're not much a student of history regarding the plight of various dis- or mis-informed, are you?

those who will be weeping and wailing and grinding their teeth to nubbins will NOT be busy expressing gratitude to ANYONE on ANY level of government,
nor to ANY neighbor,
nor to ANY church/synagogue/mosque/civic leader,
nor to ANY office 'co-worker (yawn) who knew and kept silent about the risks (and simple remedies)
thereby sealing their death and the deaths of THEIR loved ones,
by NOT giving them the facts and letting them prepare.

JLT's purloined essay was quite pitiful in one sense. What used to be common sense is now considered crackpot or extremist. This upside down, cockeyed sense of individual and community responsibility, will become righted in about 100 days.

do me a favor, will you?

promise me that you will ruefully look around at your chaotic, handwringing friends and family in 100-ish days, who WILL ask you AFTER Jan 1, why you didn't understand the seriousness of this lifechanging event? AND, they will also ask why you knew and chose not to warn them to prepare.

will you at least rehearsh your homespun words of comfort in advance since you are one of the disdainfully informed but naively hopeful, who GOT TO CHOOSE to poohpooh and play all this down???

please do NOT dishonor those of us who have diligently tried to get you to take off your rosey glasses. don't resign yourself to "nobely co-suffer" with the less informed, the panic stricken.

if i were to witness such a sanctimonious display from you at that point in time, i would have to confess to being torn between the urge to throttle you, or at least would just plain urp, first.

:)
