If Intel doing so well because of pc sales wouldn't that indicate that MSFT is doing quite well - perhaps beyond expectations built out of conservative guidance. The box makers should do equally as well

I would think so. The Office2k upgrades are probably going to continue driving revenues in addition to the regular sales from new PC software Windows, Office2k etc. I guess with MSFT earnings is just half the story.

MSFT has been a favorite among most analysts. It seems that Intel is finally getting those favorable ratings more in-line with MSFT. That is sure helping the stock run up. Even this little rumor or story on Friday(Intel not preannouncing positive earnings) could not really make a dent in the stock price.
It seems that with the Windows2000 launch there is as much excitement about Intel's prospects in chip sales from this MSFT launch.
They know how to keep the government off their back as well---probably learned a lot from the MSFT trial.

My guess is that both Microsoft and Intel should do very well (in terms of stock price) in the coming 6 to 9 months.
