athm - the legal hassles with cities over cable internet that at&t/tci are going through took the wind out of its sails for now i think (since at&t owns a major part of @home-excite after buying tci)

@home does have the exclusive agreements with most of the major cable companies for a few more years to provide them cable internet

another problem from what i hear could be that at&t wants to lease its network to everyone, from aol to yahoo, and not just have @home humming along

at this point i think the best solution is aol to acquire @home to jumpstart aol in the cable internet business, its weakest area

as long as the fcc stays away from open cable access, other than that @home probably has 2 years to make a subscriber run for cable internet via its existing deals
it must get aggressive about buildout and subscriber acquisitions
