AMPD - Just A Reseller of YDI's Wireless Equipment

This excellent post was written by nikita - nice work nikita

YOU SHOULD NOTE - YDI CHARGES $2500 SETUP AND $595/mo
FOR THIS SERVICE ---> ydi.com

Due to the hi cost of the equipment needed at the subscriber end, and the ongoing hi monthly charges needed to operate this type of wireless service, we do not believe the equipment will sell as it cannot compete with satellite, DSL or Cable internet access all of which are much cheaper. To date no service using this equipment has been successful.

I would just like to point out the similarities between AMPD and YDI Press Releases.

The YDI was back in 1998 ydi.com

YDI - PR 1998

"Using equipment in the license free 2.4 GHz band, YDI is able to offer subscribers Internet Access with speeds up to 2,000 Kbps (2 Mbps), 70 times faster than a 28.8 Kbps dial-up telephone connection! Also, this high speed connection will be available automatically 24 hours a day - no dialing or user intervention is necessary."

9/9 AMPD Press Release

"Using equipment in the license free 2.4 GHz band, Amplidyne is able to offer subscribers internet access with speeds up to 2,000 Kbps (2 Mbps), much faster than a 56 Kbps dial-up telephone connection. The Amplidyne equipment operates much faster than the much touted Blue Tooth system, operating at 432.6 Kbps. Amplidyne's high speed connection will be available automatically 24 hours a day -- no dialing or user intervention is necessary.

PRETTY MUCH WORD FOR WORD - although YDI compared to 28.8 modem whereas AMPD used a 56K ;)

YDI ydi.com

"At the subscribers' location, users can purchase a wireless Access Point device from YDI which would connect to a wired LAN (Local Area Network). This will enable all computers on that network to have continuous high speed wireless Internet Access at a fraction of the cost of having wired Internet service (such as a T1 line) brought to their office."

9/9 AMPD Press Release

"An Amplidyne Access Point Device, located at the subscribers' location would connect to a wired LAN (Local Area Network). This will enable all computers on that network to have continuous high speed wireless internet access at a fraction of the cost of having wired internet service (such as a T1 line) brought to their home office, office or enterprise."

CAN'T GET ANY CLOSER THAN THESE PARAGRAPHS

YDI
ydi.com

"Alternatively, a less expensive Wireless LAN card could be installed in a PC to provide the same wireless connectivity to a single computer, or a wired local network. An antenna is required to be installed on the roof of the subscriber's building so that it has line-of-site to the ISP head-end antennas located on the radio tower. All of the necessary equipment and antennas are available from YDI. Distances over 15 miles from the wireless head-end are possible if line-of-site between the subscriber antenna and the base antenna can be achieved. These antennas will be installed on the WFAX (1220 AM) radio tower located in the center of the city of Falls Church."

AMPD

"By using roof top antennas, line of sight links up to 50 miles are possible. ISPs in metropolitan areas who have access to radio towers can offer multiple subscription service using this technology. Amplidyne's wireless internet access service is high speed in both directions, unlike other services presently in operation. Large files that take minutes to send using dial-phone services will only take a few seconds using Amplidyne's high speed wireless internet access."
