Security Dynamics becomes RSA Security

September 13, 1999 12:00 AM
In SAN FRANCISCO story headlined "Security Dynamics becomes RSA Security," please replace all mentions of "SecureID" with "RSA SecurID." (Corrects name of product).

In first paragraph please read...Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. SDTI , maker of the...instead of...Secure Dynamics Technologies Inc...(Corrects name of original company).

In 4th para please read...Schnell said RSA's key...instead of...Schnell said Secure's key...(Corrects name of company).

In 7th para please read...RSA Keon security software... instead of...RSA Keon secure software...(Corrects name of software).

A corrected repetition follows:

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. SDTI , maker of the widely used RSA SecurID for network security, said Monday it has changed its name to RSA Security Inc., in a name change reflecting its integration with RSA Data Security Inc.

The company will change its trading symbol to RSAS RSAS when the market opens Tuesday.

In a briefing related to the name change, marketing vice president Scott Schnell said that the company's revenue has been rising sharply and at the year's end it will be at the $200 million annual sales level. In its most recent quarter ended June 30, sales were $51.8 million.

Schnell said RSA's key RSA SecurID product, used heavily for security in Internet transactions, is growing at 20 percent to 30 percent a year. The RSA SecurID business represents about two-thirds of the company's total sales.

"The Internet really is driving all aspects of computing, including security," said Schnell. While its security system was created for private networks, nearly one third of its use now is for security over the public Internet. "We consider ourselves an e-security company," he said.

The name change puts further distance between the company's management and its founder, Kenneth Weiss, who left the company three years ago in a dispute over control after it acquired RSA Data Security.

The company also announced that it is shipping a new version of its full family of RSA Keon security software products as part of the renamed company. RSA, which is based in Bedford, Mass., plans to launch advertising and promotional activities surrounding the name change and new product launch.
