The Mulroney Government had the Airbus Affair, now the Chretien Government is about to become embroiled in the Onex Affair.

The Globe And Mail has done a good job of uncovering the dirty dealings of this whole affair from the outset. The paper is claiming in today's edition that Onex spent $43 million buying stock of Air Canada one month before the government announced that it was dropping the Competition Rules on August 13.

This begs the question -- did Onex have any prior knowledge from government insiders, that the government would announce this move? Why else would Onex spend that much money to acquire stock in Air Canada?

If Onex was tipped off, that would really open up a nasty debate. What official discussed this matter with Onex? Was Air Canada kept in the dark? Wouldn't this amount to a form of insider trading?

There's a serious scandal brewing here and we are in the early days of lifting the veil of secrecy that is hiding the real facts of this story from the public.

This could lead to, not only the unravelling of this deal, but more importantly, the disgrace of the sitting government.

Stay tuned.
