I don't know much about VGA extension cables, but a client of ours needed one, and we got him a fully-shielded 6 inch foot cable that turned out to be a bit fuzzy on various monitors when connected. He picked up a 'triple-shielded' cable from a friend that seemed to work perfectly.

Could be ours was defective, but I couldn't tell you for sure. If you do pick up a cheaper one, try and see if they'll test it first or take it back if it doesn't work.
