(Nasdaq:MRVC), today announced the Red-C 16000 Solution, the
industry's first intelligent networking device for subscriber
management that enables easy integration of new applications with an
"open" architecture.
The Red-C 16000 is the first product in NBase-Xyplex's new Red
Sea product line designed specifically for service providers. The
solution provides many native services such as QoS, VPN, policy-based
management, etc., and a flexible integration of "best-of-breed"
emerging services such as Voice-over-DSL, Video-on-Demand or firewall
security, all combined with connectivity to a carrier's billing and
authentication systems.
The result is the forward-thinking Red-C Open Subscriber System
(OSS), flexible for today's carrier requirements and scalable to
tomorrow's demands. The Red-C 16000 will be demonstrated this week at
Networld+Interop, Atlanta, Sept. 14-16, NBase-Xyplex booth No. 6746.
The Red-C 16000 includes an open architecture based on three
levels of openness: the OSS core, OSS interfaces and OSS applications.
These layers communicate via a common predefined structure designed to
ease the integration of third-party applications and to allow service
providers the flexibility to customize the Red-C to their specific
demands.

The Red-C 16000 gives service providers (RBOCs, CLECs, ISPs,
IXCs) the ability to "unbundle the copper loop" and release the Local
Exchange stranglehold. Voice-over-DSL support offers unprecedented
opportunities for CLECs looking to grow their business beyond Internet
connectivity. In the traditional DSL Internet market the business
model uses a fixed-based charging method, which has clear limitations.
The Red-C Solution provides the intelligence to introduce usage-based
billing by tracking users and their usage on a per-second basis.

affecting performance, scalability or reliability.
The open I/O interfaces can combine with the open engine to
provide the hardware necessary to ensure that services are made
available without affecting system performance. This open I/O
interface uses a programmable interface for customized hardware-based
acceleration. All critical components of this carrier-class system are
fully redundant for complete reliability, and comply with carrier
environment standards.
Availability
The Red-C 16000 Solution will be available in Q4 1999. Baseline
pricing will start at $100,000 for a typical configuration.
