Countdown Begins for Starsem Launch ST04
(via LOR yahoo thread)

From Starsem web site
( starsem.com )

Starsem's fourth commercial flight is set for the middle of this month, carrying a multi-spacecraft payload for
the
Globalstar satellite communications system.

As with Starsem's three previous missions, this upcoming flight will use a Souyz/Ikar launcher and a
purpose-built
dispenser to deploy the four Globalstar satellites into orbit.

The launch will be conducted from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, where the Soyuz/Ikar vehicle and
its satellite
payload are now undergoing final checkout.

The September mission will be followed by flights for Globalstar in October and November, as Starsem
demonstrates its
ability to meet rapid-paced launch scheduling requirements of its customers.

?We are pleased to once again be at Globalstar's service ? especially as it prepares to start commercial
telecommunications operations,? Starsem Chairman and CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall said.

All of Starsem's missions to date have carried Globalstar payloads. The inauguration of Starsem flights was
on
February 9, 1999, which also marked the Soyuz/Ikar launcher's service introduction. Two additional
Globalstar flights
followed on March 15 and April 15.

With the three upcoming missions in September, October and November, Starsem will place a total of 24
satellites in
orbit for the Globalstar constellation during 1999.
