Infowave launches wireless Internet/Intranet solution at Networld + Interop in Atlanta
Infowave for the Net provides secure and optimized wireless access to corporate information and applications
ATLANTA, GA, Sept. 14 /CNW/ - Infowave Software Inc. (VSE:IWM) today unveiled the final version of Infowave for the Net and announced that the first orders are expected to ship by the end of September. Infowave for the Net is a client/server solution that provides secure wireless access to any Intranet or Internet site. It will be jointly marketed with Infowave's wireless product for Microsoft Exchange as a complete enterprise solution for wireless connectivity to all corporate information and applications.
``We are really pleased with the performance increase we've experienced while trialing Infowave for the Net,' says Milo Decol, Director, Wireless Data at Telus Mobility (www.telusmobility.com). ``Internet and Intranet access on our CDPD network is faster and the end-user experience is much more enjoyable. We are also happy with the way that Infowave for the Net integrates with Infowave's Microsoft Exchange product to allow people to have wireless access to all the important information that they would have if they were at their desks.'
The use of the Internet and corporate Intranets to provide critical and dynamic information continues to grow. Infowave for the Net acts as a secure wireless pipe that provides mobile staff with the same capability to access and interact with this information outside of the office, as they do inside the office. Infowave for the Net incorporates authentication and encryption technology to ensure that data remains secure and private. It also includes optimization features to increase the download speed on wireless networks.
Infowave for the Net and Infowave for Exchange now add support for Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) networks. In Canada, CDPD is available in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia through the Mobility Canada Cellular carriers. In the US, CDPD networks cover approximately 55% of the total U.S. population and are supported by approximately 12 carriers. Infowave's products will also continue to support the Mobitex network operated by BellSouth Wireless Data in the U.S. and by Cantel/AT&T in Canada. Mobitex is estimated to cover approximately 93% of the U.S. urban business population. Infowave plans to develop its software to support additional wireless networks.
``The launch of Infowave for the Net represents the culmination of a development process that provides a comprehensive wireless solution for corporations,' said Ron Jasper, vice president of marketing at Infowave. ``Infowave's software now makes it possible for a mobile worker to wirelessly access and use all corporate information on any Intranet, Internet, Exchange or workflow application on Exchange. With Infowave for the Net, we have greatly expanded our potential customer base and are excited to be offering a complete wireless enterprise solution to corporate America.'
Infowave for the Net was first announced at Spring Internet World. Infowave for the Net and Infowave for Exchange were jointly nominated as ``Hot Products' by the Wireless Data Forum in May. Infowave is currently exhibiting at NetWorld + Interop in the Microsoft Partner Pavilion booth. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate first-hand Infowave's wireless computing products to potential industry buyers.
