Casaubon, it's true those other energy sources you mention are on the rise. I think they're all terrific investment prospects.

However I disagree that rising oil prices encourage cheating. Low oil prices encourage cheating because the producers are desperate. But now the oil price is high, why would OPEC members want to spoil it by cheating? It's like saying DeBeers is going to cheat and flood the market with diamonds - no way, it's not in their interest.

As for efficiency reducing demand, world demand is projected to grow 2% this year and 2.5% next year. This is partly due to Asian recovery, and partly due to our own inefficiency - SUV's don't get many miles to the gallon!
