Mark,
Cmon, now you're splitting hairs. Technically, you are correct, they did not *plant* the bombs. They were convicted of building the bombs and conspiracy in masterminding the bombings. By 12 jurors who saw all the facts. Not pulling the trigger is a weak excuse. That logic (or lack thereof) would make the Unibomber pardonable--after all, he just built the bombs, it was the Post Office that actually "planted" them.
As far as the white supremacist wackos who go on killing sprees, you betcha. When you conspire to kill someone and provide the weapon to get it done, you are just as responsible as the guy who pulled the trigger or planted the bomb. Lets face it, if Hillary was running in Montana instead of New York, those FALN guys would still be rotting in jail and those idiots in TX who dragged the black guy behind their truck would be the ones with the clemency offer and the Unibomber would be renouncing his Manifesto. Sick, but true.
You missed the whole point of the original discussion. It was not meant as a political discussion (which would've certainly be off topic). Rather, I simply question the choice of stories the CNBC general news people report. Clemency offered to members of an anti-U.S. terrorist group is big news. If the general news readers have 60 seconds to cover their stories, then I think such a clemency offer takes precedent over fluff such as the Clinton house shopping excursions. And on the days when the clemency offer was proposed, CNBC general news people gave plenty of attention to the house shopping crapola, but nothing was said about the clemency stuff until just the past two days. I can understand the fluff pieces on slow news days, but a lot of times, big news is overlooked to do the cutesy stories. In fact, we heard all about that damn house they are buying, but nothing was said about their creative financing methods... |
