I agree, and I'm not blindly following evolution either. Much of what I post is devil's advocacy.
My belief is in evolution, but one guided by God. I just take an extremely parabolic view of Genesis.
What I was asking here is a question that has vexed me since I was a youth. Basically, my question has been, "Is God good and caring like the church teaches?"
There is significant evidence that the answer is no. But, since both good and caring are subjective ideas, can they be applied to God?
I don't see the evidence that God is good or caring. I do see that he had his son brutally tortured, taunted, stabbed and crucified. I also know that the bible teaches we were made in God's image. In addition, much of the bible devalues women (Lot offering his daughters for the crowd to rape, so as to spare his angelic visitors).
So, I was posing the a question that challenges the most basic foundation of Christianity, the one echoed by every Sunday school teacher since we were youthes. "God loves you".
How do others reconcile the fact that God allows and causes cruelty to humans, with him loving and caring for us? |
