Not clear company is planning to sell the division, but to get out of directly manufacturing handsets. Could be some kind of jv, outsourcing or sale--but the employees would go to the manufacturer, although it appears to be transferring some design engineers, employess to the other division. so it's not clear that company would not be designing or selling phones. On the other hand, the press release used "transitioning", which is interesting.

Most of you will recall the Siemens rumors several months ago. There was speculation, including me, that one possibility might be having Siemens manufacture Qualcomm label phones and sell them in Europe; that Qcom would continue to design them. Basically put Siemens in the handset biz. That kind of deal could be contemplated. Qualcomm would continue to design phones for its own label; Siemens or someone else would manufacture all Qcom phones as well as its own.

But, the term transitioning coupled with supporting employees and customers--to me--indicates an outright sale.
