I'm sure Cisco's QoS is reliable enough. I just don't see
how this gives Microsoft a leg up on anyone else.

I may just be projecting my own psychosis, but I think this is part of an increasingly frenzied pattern of FUD announcements that Microsoft is making like a frightened squid filling the water with ink. This Cisco thing doesn't mean diddly, the whole Windows DNA 2000 'concept' is going to keep even the ZD press up at night trying to figure out what it can possibly mean, there's the X-box toy initiative, etc. etc. etc. While the last few stones in Sun's carefully laid-out pattern fall into place, Microsoft is looking more and more like they're running in the proverbial circle with one foot nailed to the floor.

Hayuk hayuk.

EDIT: Maybe the X-box toy initiative is brilliant! Catch 'em while they're young & want to play games, but make 'em play the games over the web using MSN and Windows CE! It's sort of like giving bubble gum cigarettes away outside school yards. And when your character gets killed, instead of just dying and getting a "game over" screen, you get a blue screen with a cryptic message about invalid memory access plus a few hundred hex digits, and customer service is $35 per minute-on-hold! You have to hand it to these guys: they're master marketers<g>!
