Anyone can see the Triceratops and the rino have much in common. This is called convergent evolution. If a sucessful niche is vacated, a new animal will most likely evolve along the same lines to fill it. If, and I admit I have no evidence to this effect, intelligence works, then it is likely that another animal will duplicate it either on Earth or elsewhere. There are only so many physically possible niches and the animals that fill them are often equipt the same. Dolphins and sharks are very similar but unrelated.
